Door County :: March 2015

I was able to take a few drives and a walk out photographing this month. Here's a look into what it's been like around here. (:

I drove out to Door County Boat Launch (also known as the quarry) on Monday the ninth and got to see the sunset. It was finally warming up on that day, so it was in the forties. There were some other people there taking pictures, including an actual photographer with a tripod and some people with their cell phones. I was annoyed about the car that pulled up, let out a passenger who took one picture, and then when she got back in the car, they drove away. It was beautiful and I'm glad I went.

I took a drive that Wednesday, the eleventh, and the first place I stopped was this orchard. I think it was Choice Orchards, but I'm not sure. I don't even know if those are cherry or apple trees. It seemed that there were a lot of trees that had been partially cut down.

I drove north to Ephraim, and this picture is from Anderson Dock. The water was still partially frozen and there was still enough snow. This is why I like to wear riding boots, and was so glad to not be wearing Converse.

I looped back through on my way into Sturgeon Bay to get a picture of this house on Peterson Road that I drove by earlier. I just love old houses. There were some other run down buildings that I want to take pictures of, but at least one of them is on the main highway, and probably wouldn't be too safe to do.

On Monday the sixteenth, I headed out to Portage Park to get some pictures since the sky started to clear a little bit. I ended up only going to this overlook of the canal, and the sky stayed grey. The bottom picture was taken with a disposable camera, it wasn't edited except to add a watermark.

I did quite a bit of driving and walking around on Monday the 23rd. My first stop was the Lily Bay Boat Launch on Lake Michigan. The sky and the waters just looked so pretty. It reminded me of Florida, honestly.

This one is from Whitefish Bay Road in Valmy. I just really love old buildings.

A few hours later, after teaching at the Y, I decided that I would try to drive up to Egg Harbor to see the sunset. This abandoned house on Highway 42 just looked so perfect in the light, and there wasn't a lot of traffic, so I parked on the side of the road and took some pictures here. I decided that I couldn't make it up there for the sunset, so I headed downtown instead.

I just have such a great love for the sky and clouds I guess. I took some pictures on the steel bridge (Michigan Street/Memorial/old bridge, whichever you prefer), before walking over to the Maple-Oregon (new) bridge two blocks over.

These boats are being worked on (I think?) at CenterPointe Yacht Services.

This barge, Texas, was docked here for a few months or so after hitting the Maple-Oregon bridge as it was (I believe) leaving. I noticed that it was gone just two days after I took this picture, and that was when I noticed how blue the building behind it is now.

I wasn't planning on putting captions after all of the pictures in this segment, it just kind of happened. I made a loop over the bridges to get back to where I had parked my car, and I loved how the sun was right behind the granary to take this picture with the tugboats and the steel bridge.

 I have taken many a tour on this fireboat, and I love that this photograph looks like a painting.

This might be my favorite picture from the night though.

a noninclusive list of things I love

Noninclusive sounds like a weird word, but I think it's the right one! (:

- caramel crunch cocoa from Glas - it's been way too long.

- living in Door County, especially in the fall

- exposed brick, especially older facades (is that the correct word?) like this one at the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis

- the 200 or so musicians I consider family

- watching SNL on Hulu now that Parks & Rec is over

- when my NatureBox arrives

- spending too much time browsing the aisles at Target

- fun knee high socks

- bright blue skies with the perfect white clouds

- all the funny tees on Skreened

- picture books, most especially those written/illustrated by Oliver Jeffers

- American Eagle jeans, which I can be found wearing 99% of the time

- The Traveling Suitcase's Nobody Wins album - I can't stop listening to it!

- Chimes ginger chews. because yes.

12/52 2015

well, the weather here in Door County has been a bit bipolar (for lack of a better word) this week. I think it got up to 54 on Friday, and then it snowed early Wednesday morning, then melted that day. it's been between 20-50 all week, and I am just ready for spring! I am really tired of pulling feathers off my clothes every time I take my coat off.

Thursday 19 March // day seventy-eight :: stepped out onto my balcony for the first time this year to take a few pictures because the sky looked nice. (:

Friday 20 March // day seventy-nine :: am I the only one who is ridiculously annoyed when candles melt and then cool like this?

Saturday 21 March // day eighty :: I really love this photo that I took a few Decembers ago. I think it's from 2012.

Sunday 22 March // day eighty-one :: cookie in a cup supplies (:

Monday 23 March // day eighty-two :: I did quite a bit of driving around and taking pictures of things today. here's a shot of Lake Michigan at the Lily Bay Boat Launch. (:

Tuesday 24 March // day eighty-three :: responding to happy mail. {I keep stamps, notecards, stickers, etc. in the cigar box purse.}

Wednesday 25 March // day eighty-four :: oh look, now we have snow. actually, most of it had melted five hours later. gotta love living on the lake!

11/52 2015

the week flew by again! this weekend was so crazy at work. there were always three things going on. I took some time on Monday to go out and take some pictures at the canal, and I attended a city council meeting on Tuesday. I don't really understand what's going on there, but it is interesting for sure. anyway, all of this to say that it was just an average week!

Thursday 12 March // day seventy-one :: table books.

Friday 13 March // day seventy-two :: if you need to remember something to take with you, leave it by your shoes (: {and then decide to deal with it later}

Saturday 14 March // day seventy-three :: grey skies

Sunday 15 March // day seventy-four :: a very important part of my day: DuoLingo.

Monday 16 March // day seventy-five :: I used this lotion for the first time in a really long time, and it brought back memories of getting ready for school when I was in high school, and I would listen to this CD while I was getting ready. I did my hair that day like I would back then, and I listened to music on my iPod that I haven't heard in a while!

Tuesday 17 March // day seventy-six :: favorite apples! (:

Wednesday 18 march // day seventy-seven :: addiction to knee socks.

NatureBox :: March 2015

It's come to this point with NatureBox that I've tried most of the snacks that I think I will like, so I've started getting some of my favorites again. (: I so wish that I could buy these at the grocery store, but then again getting them in the mail once a month does make it more special.

The two new snacks that I got this month were both chocolate!
Dark Chocolate Pretzel Pops {limited edition} and Chocolate Chia Granola

Chocolate Chia Granola :: I had just had lunch when the mail came, so I just tested the two new ones that day. This chocolate granola is so good! I thought that I had had this before once I tasted it, but it was the Chocolate Quinoa Granola that I was thinking of. Anyway, it's chocolate granola and I haven't seen any chia seeds, but I wasn't looking too hard and I'm sure they're in there.

"The combination of organic whole rolled oats, chia seeds and cocoa powder will take you back to the days of Saturday morning cartoons and crunchy, chocolatey cereal. Whole grain oats and chia seeds offer fiber, while cocoa and a touch of sweetness round out this sinfully guilt-free snack."

(Yes, it really does taste like chocolate cereal.)

Dark Chocolate Pretzel Pops :: It says on the package that these are limited edition, but there is no explanation of how limited that is, and it seems that NatureBox rotates their snacks somehow. I'm getting off track, I know. The way some of these look makes me laugh. Basically, they're cocoa covered pretzels. They're a little too dark of a chocolate flavor for me, but they aren't bad!

"You’ve had an early dinner so you feel the evening snack attack start to set in. Grab a handful (or two!) of this sweet and slightly savory snack. Rich dark chocolate flavor combines with the salty crunch of pretzels for the ultimate treat."

Granny Smith Apples :: I first had these in October 2013, and I still love them. I just really love dried fruits, especially apples, which are definitely one of my favorite fruits. The one ingredient in this snack is apples, so you know that it must be good for you!

"Our tart and chewy apple rings will help you naturally replenish your energy. With no added sugars, these are a great portable snack that the whole family will love."

Masa Crisps :: Back in September 2013, I got my first NatureBox, and this was one of the included snacks. These will always be one of my favorites. They taste like Fritos, but are likely much much better for you. Plus, they're adorable.

"It'€™s no secret that your salty cravings can easily be triggered by the memory of eating something deliciously savory or by the smell of fried foods. A handful of these crisps will quickly satisfy the salty bite you crave without weighing you down."

Asiago & Cheddar Cheese Crisps :: I had these not too long ago, in October, but I couldn't stop thinking about them! They have the perfect cheese flavor and are light but crunchy at the same time. They also kind of look like bacon...

"When nothing but a savory crunch will do, these Asiago & Cheddar Cheese Crisps will save you from an unwanted trip to the vending machine. Nosh on them at your desk or in the car, or sneak them into the movie theater. Snack on them on their own or coarsely crumble them over salads!"

10/52 2015

I got out and took some photos this week, which means that I should edit some of them for a blog post. (: I'll go work on that instead of rambling here because I don't really remember what else happened this week...

Thursday 5 March // day sixty-four :: breakfast.

Friday 6 March // day sixty-five :: I always thought that it was interesting that my dad's T looks like a 7.

Saturday 7 March // day sixty-six :: this is what happens if you forget to take a picture before work. I really love this shirt though.

Sunday 8 March // day sixty-seven :: how to get the kids to like you more. alternate title: things to bring to church.

Monday 9 March // day sixty-eight :: I am so in love with these Chimes. it's been months since I've had them, so it was nice to pick up some more!

Tuesday 10 March // day sixty-nine :: happy birthday to the late, great Chris Aaron. we love and miss you so much! my first favorite song of his was Blue Highway, and I Love You will always make me cry.

Wednesday 11 March // day seventy :: I went out for a drive during the afternoon. here is Luna parked at a cherry orchard.

xoxo.
