small space living (before)

I wanted to do a little "before" post of the apartment to document the way things were when I moved in. The lighting was a little weird on the day I took these pictures because the weather has been grey and rainy.

The apartment that I'm moving into has been passed down in the "family," and I am so excited to be moving here. There are many special moments that it holds, and it makes my heart happy to know that there have been songs written here.

entryway, bathroom to the right and kitchen to the left.

tiny bathroom with a little storage! the biggest challenge is going to be getting used to life without giant closets! I grew up in a house that was about 100 years old (built in the early 1900s), so there weren't built in closets, and the apartment that I've lived in for the past year and a half had some pretty large closets, whereas this one has two small closets but a lot of kitchen storage.

kitchen. mint green walls painted by a friend from Chicago. there are more cabinets hidden from the left edge of this photo.

two part living room/dining room/open plan space.

small bedroom with tiny closet (to the right out of the photo).

view of kitchen and front rooms from the bedroom doorway.

I can't wait to start getting things moved in and set up here!!!

Influenster Spice VoxBox

I was lucky enough to be chosen to receive Influenster's Spice VoxBox, so here's a look at what was inside!

What's inside???

First glance.

Here's what was inside!

Botanics Organic Hydrating Day Cream :: This hydrating organic day cream softens and moisturizes skin for 24 hours. Active plant extract, Organic Rosehip Seed Oil is combined with Jojoba Oil and Cocoa Butter to instantly nourish and leave skin looking fresh and radiant.

I'm not a big fan of the way this cream smells, so I only used it once, but it did leave my skin feeling really great.

Foot Petals :: Give 'em the Boot offers a cozy 100% Wool overlay atop Foot Petals' signature Poron insole to keep tootsies toasty while absorbing shock for all-day comfort.

These are so cozy! My complaint with things like these is always how annoying it is to cut them out and then having fluffy stuff all over. They do make your shoes/boots a little bit more smug, but they're so cozy!!!

SinfulColors SinfulShine Nail Polish :: Get over-the-top shine! Introducing SinfulColors SinfulShine 2-step manicure with GelTech. There are 2 easy steps to a statement-making mani. Step 1: Apply 2 coats of any of our 27 bold, vibrant colors! Step 2: Seal with our top coat for added shine and wear!

The Mirror Mirror color I received is a deep dark red. I'm always nervous for these types of polish that don't have you using a base coat...

I have yet to remove the nail polish completely yet, but it did start chipping by day four, so really it's not much different to me than any other nail polish.

Good Health Veggie Straws :: At Good Health, we believe the secret to a great "Lifeitude," aka loving life to the fullest, is feeling good. That's why we pack our Veggie Straws with Extra Goodness! Like nutrients (vitamins!) from tomatoes, spinach, beets, broccoli and carrots to deliver a truly delicious snack so you can... Enjoy Being Good!

I am proud to say that this is the first product I tested. I have had veggie straws in the past, and I do enjoy them. If you've never had them before, they taste just like French fries but they are better for you. (:

SoapBox Shampoo & Conditioner :: SoapBox is a buy one give one company. For every product sold, a bar of soap or a month of clean water is given to a person in need! Our shampoos and conditioners are always free from sulfates, parabens, EDTA and artificial colorants and each one is full of hope.

My VoxBox actually arrived the day that I finished the shampoo and conditioner that I was using, so it was perfect timing. I had never heard of SoapBox prior to receiving these products, but I now am so excited about them because they smell amazing (coconut), they work well, and they help people in need!

Yogi Tea :: Enjoy two intriguingly delicious samples from Yogi's line of Energy teas. The Yogi collection includes 60 varieties of herbal, green & black teas rich in delicious flavor & healthful purpose.

I really don't drink tea. I mean, I like chai lattes, but every time I've had tea, it just doesn't have a strong enough flavor for me. I will say that it did smell really nice!

Not Your Mother's Whip It Up Cream Styling Mousse :: Whip It Up is a delicious vanilla cupcake scented mousse rich in moisturizers to tame frizzies and help thicken strands. It may smell sweet, but this salon formula styling mousse won't leave your fingers (or your hair) sticky!

I know nothing about hair and makeup. Seriously. I just throw on some mascara (and get it on my eyelids always) and sort of do my hair every morning, and that's it. This mousse smells so good and I like that it gets rid of some of the friziness!

I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster.

51/52 :: 2015

well, 2015, we have hit the home stretch. only eight short days until 2016. crazy, so crazy. this week was yet another whirlwind. I've started moving things into the new apartment, but before that there was baking for my Sunday kids and of course working both of the jobs, with last classes of the year at the Y. I guess I thought that I hadn't really accumulated a lot more stuff in the past year and a half... now it's a matter of going through things to decide what to keep, what to throw away, what to give away, and what to list on eBay.

I wish you all a merry Christmas with family and friends and a wonderful 2016!

Thursday 17 December // day three hundred fifty-one :: the night before, my aunt and I made organic body scrub and organic whipped body butter!

Friday 18 December // day three hundred fifty-two :: deconstructed salad of sorts.

Saturday 19 December // day three hundred fifty-three :: baking mint chocolate chip cookies for my Sunday kids! I use Betty Crocker's recipe. (:

Sunday 20 December // day three hundred fifty-four :: getting things ready to bring to church.

Monday 21 December // day three hundred fifty-five :: painted ladies.

Tuesday 22 December // day three hundred fifty-six :: out with the old, in with the new. I know that they say to wear your Converse until they fall apart, but there are tears in the old ones and they just feel less comfortable now, plus I've always hated that double tongue.

Wednesday 23 December // day three hundred fifty-seven :: the current state of my living room. things to donate, Christmas presents, groceries, and a box... I just want to be moved into the other place now so that I don't have to deal with any of this!

50/52 :: 2015

how is it possible that every week towards the end of the year seems crazier than the week before? it was a really dreary week weather-wise, with warmer temperatures that brought rain. so strange.

Thursday 10 December // day three hundred forty-four :: when people know you so well, part one. I didn't even know that you could buy bottled old fashioneds! thanks, Jaybo. <3

Friday 11 December // day three hundred forty-five :: apparently this is December. the temp is in the 40-50 range...

Saturday 12 December // day three hundred forty-six :: when people know you so well, part two. sugar skulls and notebooks. thanks, melaniejane! <3

Sunday 13 December // day three hundred forty-seven :: gold stars are something I cherish and they're really a big deal in my life, as they symbolize my #songfamily. this one got stuck to me during Children's Liturgy of the Word and stayed there all day. <3

Monday 14 December // day three hundred forty-eight :: vintage ornaments will always be my favorite.

Tuesday 15 December // day three hundred forty-nine :: planning Sunday's lesson for Children's Liturgy of the Word + gift from one of the moms in gymnastics + giant mess on dining room table = real life.

Wednesday 16 December // day three hundred fifty :: catching up on yesterday.
