39/52 :: 2015

my least favorite part about doing these posts is this little intro up here because I never know what to write about.

since it's finally the first October, there are of course some Halloween-related photos this week. though, in my opinion, skulls are good for all year (:

{also somehow I messed up the numbers again? but it's fixed for at least this post...}

Thursday 24 September // day two hundred sixty-seven :: my neighbor has pretty flowers (:

Friday 25 September // day two hundred sixty-eight :: sugar skull season (; t-minus thirty days until my loves return.

Saturday 26 September // day two hundred sixty-nine :: StitchFix! {here's the post showing what I received}

Sunday 27 September // day two hundred seventy :: my niece was mesmerized by these windows at her baptism.

Monday 28 September // day two hundred seventy-one :: Halloween is my favorite, and I am always super excited when it's on its way. (see next photo) my dad knows this, and so he got me this sign, which is currently in the backseat of my car since I'm not quite sure what to do with it. he also got me another skull a couple days later which is on the backseat too.

Tuesday 29 September // day two hundred seventy-two :: raspberries in my newest Pyrex! I didn't need it, but I couldn't resist the sugar skulls. it's from Target and they have some other fun Halloween ones too. {sugar skulls // cats // ghosts}

Wednesday 30 September // day two hundred seventy-three :: happy birthday, William! I can't believe you're already four! I have been craving cupcakes for so long, so this was wonderful. (and then my mom brought me some red velvet ones too...)

xoxo.

StitchFix :: September 2015

as much as I love StitchFix, I know that I shouldn't be getting them all of the time because, yes, they are kind of expensive and I should be spending my money on other things (or rather, saving it so I can go on vacation). however, I still try to get one about every six months, and I used a gift card that I got for my birthday for this one. like the StitchFix I received in April, I asked for all grey and black, but this time I asked for no pants.

(I totally took these pictures right after getting out of the shower because I didn't want to have to get dressed multiple times on this Saturday morning, and the light was nice enough.)

here's what I got!

Pixley Linden Sheer Detail Sleeveless Top ($54) and Gilli Kolby Printed Skirt ($54)

as soon as I saw these pieces on the styling card, I knew that they would both be a no. I have no need to wear blouses, as I don't work a typical 9-5 job, and I just think that they look super weird on me. I guess I just think that that style is a little mature for me. as far as the skirt, I don't really wear striped things (which is probably because my mom has always had a big thing against stripes) and I'm not a big fan of the cut of the skirt. you can't tell from the picture, but while it's flat and you're looking at it straight on, it has kind of a u-shape.

these were both sent back.

Loveappella Lia Dress ($68)

I wasn't so sure about this dress, but it wasn't really too bad. I don't really have a real reason for doing so, but I don't really wear sleeveless tops (or in this case dresses) like this that often. I thought that the way this dress had a grey overlay on the front was really cool, but I didn't feel like it was going to stay hanging in the right place. I also didn't like how clingy the material was, as I felt it was really awkward that you could see the top of my bra.

this was sent back.

Everly Peter Dress ($68)

this dress was pretty much love at first sight! I love a good fit-and-flare dress, and this one has a lower back than front which I thought was pretty. the pattern is definitely not something that I would have picked out for myself. my only (slight) annoyance about this dress is that it shows just an "f" from my tattoos.

this was kept.

RD Style Angus Split Back Mixed Material Sweater ($68)

it's sweater season! this is probably another thing that I wouldn't have picked out for myself, but it's really cute. the back detailing was the seller on this one. it's going to be perfect to pair with jeggings or skinny jeans, or even over leggings when I'm leaving gymnastics class. I might even have a cute skirt to wear with this one.

this was kept.

have you tried StitchFix yet? I would totally recommend it as a fun way to get some clothes that you probably wouldn't pick out for yourself!

The Month by iPhone :: April 2015

Life seems to go by so fast! It's crazy how fast each week and month seem to fly by, and yet some days (like Friday) just drag on forever.

Here's a look into what happened in my month, complete with clouds, Luna, cookies, and cats.

it had been too long since I last took a picture of Luna.

{from Marcel the Shell: the Most Surprised I've Ever Been} I love Marcel the Shell (from the YouTube videos here), but I remembered that the last time I read a Marcel the Shell with Shoes On book {Marcel the Shell with Shoes On: Things About Me}, my preschoolers didn't find it that funny, so I just read this one myself. (:

this guy.

Easter view.

I was working on some accounting at work, and I really wanted to take a picture of the stapler, so I threw some file folders in to make it a little more normal.

it annoys me that everyone thinks that my shoes are green. here is proof that they are blue!

the morning of their First Eucharist retreat, the second graders share loaves of bread with members of the congregation. one of my favorite little ladies gave me this one!

if lanterns count as lamps, I know own a lamp because my wonderful manager found it at Target and said that it was my color. it fits so perfectly on my dresser. {it's from Target}

finally feeling like spring in Door County!

we have two sets of magnetic poetry on the fridge at work, and I love making sure that gold is next to star. (:

I really dislike receiving cut flowers because they're just going to die anyway, but this rose is so beautiful.

my new friends Crankshaft and the Gear Grinders at Benny D'z.

time for my second Stitch Fix!

rule of thirds.

big dirty things.

new Converse! (:

how many pictures of your car is too many? and how many pictures of the same building?

what a funny vase.

this is my favorite Christmas present.

baking fun.

I love the redesigned Door County Living!

house envy at my aunt and uncle's house.

another picture from their house. all I had to do for this one was try to get Sherman to look at me.

16/52 2015

In true Door County fashion, the weather around here has been pretty weird lately. It was semi-warm (we're talking around 55), and the grass turned green. The trees have started to blossom a little bit, but I'm waiting for them to really start blooming before I go out again to get some pictures especially since it was SNOWING yesterday. None of it stuck here since the ground was too warm, but it was still annoying to me. (:

Here's a little glimpse into my week. It wasn't too exciting though.

Thursday 16 April // day one hundred six :: Macintosh apples are my favorite.

Friday 17 April // day one hundred seven :: I must admit that Talenti gelato is one of my favorite things.

Saturday 18 April // day one hundred eight :: I am one of those people who likes to make her bed every morning because it just looks better and I feel like I accomplished something. Saturdays are the best though because I do the laundry so they are fresh sheets. (:

Sunday 19 April // day one hundred nine :: my Tattly order came the day before and I am so excited about it!

Monday 20 April // day one hundred ten :: I was going to plan my lesson for Sunday, but then I ended up getting busy with other errands and such.

Tuesday 21 April // day one hundred eleven :: shooting for a post about my second Stitch Fix!

Wednesday 22 April // day one hundred twelve :: I saw these salt and pepper shakers the last time that I was at Target, and I just fell in love with them, because I love little dogs with wrinkly noses, most especially French bulldogs and Boston terriers. there were two salt shakers left next to a pepper shaker, and I didn't buy any of them because I already have a matryoshka salt and pepper shaker set that I don't use. well, today there was one lone salt shaker, so I bought it for my dresser.

Stitch Fix :: April 2015

This was actually my second Stitch Fix! I had my first one back in October, but I never posted about it because I didn't like or keep anything that came in it. {There's a picture in this post though.}

I'm sure everyone who reads blogs is familiar with Stitch Fix, but if you're not, I'll try to describe it. When you sign up, you fill out a profile with your measurements, likes/dislikes, price range, and what you're looking for. For example, I told them to never send me jewelry. You can link them to a Pinterest board for more information about your style. Each box costs $20 (styling fee) and that will be used towards anything you decide to keep. You can either schedule your box manually or have it come every month. When your box arrives, you try on your five items and decide what to keep, and then you fill out a survey about the items before you mail back your unwanted items within three days of its arrival. If you keep all five items, you will get 25% off.

For this fix, I knew to be more specific with what I was looking for, so I told my stylist that I am looking to add more black and grey to my closet. I really liked the jeans last time, except that they were distressed, so I mentioned that and also asked for maybe a skirt or dress.

A lot of grey and black, just like I wanted!

{Before I get to the rest of the pictures, I just want to explain that I don't have a tripod, full length mirror, or anyone to take pictures for me, and the options that I had for places to take pictures weren't the best, so they ended up being taken in my guest room and I'm not too proud of these pictures, but I wanted to share what was in the box anyway. No, I am not a fashion blogger.}

Octavia Alden Ikat Infinity Scarf in black | $28 | 100% Polyester

I'm not really into the ikat pattern, but I think it works really well on this scarf! I decided not to keep this one because I already have a scarf in these colors, so I didn't really feel that it was worth the price. The material is a little on the thinner side, and I feel like it could be easily snagged. {I used this as the background for the rest of these photos so that it wasn't so bright like this pink one.}

Market & Spruce Brentwood Tiered Striped Long Sleeve Sheath Dress in black | $78 | 95% Rayon, 5% Spandex

I wanted to like this dress, even though it's a bit out of my price range. I didn't like it though, and here's why. While the fabric is super soft and a very nice stretchy material, it was too clingy on my body. I'm very self conscious of my torso area, and this was not flattering on me at all. I did like the neckline, but the way the fabric criss-crossed across the front was a little weird for me. The dress hit right above my knees, and while they are supposed to be long sleeves, they actually were about halfway between my elbows and wrists, closer to the wrists.

Market & Spruce Corinna Striped Dolman Top in grey | $48 | 60% Rayon, 35% Polyester, 5% Spandex

I thought I might like this shirt, but I didn't. My stylist said that this is one of their most popular items, but it didn't work for me. The stripes on a loose shirt like this one seemed to widen me, and I just wasn't happy with the loose fit. The sleeves kind of bothered me as well. It's super soft though, and maybe I would have liked it better as a solid color.

Pixley Messi Lattice Neckline Knit Top in light grey | $68 | 60% Polyester, 35% Rayon, 5% Spandex

I knew right out of the box that this would be a no because I don't wear tank tops that often. I tried it on anyway, and I was not a fan of the detailing at the top. In the back, it also cut my tattoos weirdly. Once again, I do prefer to wear more fitted tops to show that I have a figure, and I feel like this made me look like a blob.

Just Black Connely Skinny Jean in black | $78 | 98% Cotton, 2% Spandex

These were a little bit out of my price range, but with the $20 off for the styling fee, I knew that they were worth it, and so these jeans were the only thing that I kept. Not only are they super soft and comfortable, but they are classic and filled a gap in my closet. I do own one pair of black skinny pants, but they are dress pants and not too comfortable or practical (we're talking fake pockets), so I've only worn them a few times. I know that I will get some use out of these, and I put them in the wash with the rest of my clothes right after I took this picture so that I can wear them tomorrow!

Have you tried Stitch Fix yet? What was your favorite thing that you've received?

Haven't tried Stitch Fix yet? I would definitely recommend trying it for some new options for your closet! They even send you a little card with the pieces to show a couple ways to wear each item.

xoxo.
