My birthday was on Saturday, so most of these pictures are birthday related! My birthday celebration is going to be this weekend, so there will still be a few more birthday pictures (:
Wednesday 6 August // day two hundred eighteen :: I'm usually not very good at giving gifts, but I came up with one that was kind of an inside joke, so I was pretty proud of myself (: he seemed to like it too!
Thursday 7 August // day two hundred nineteen :: balloons from camp because I'm a princess! (:
Friday 8 August // day two hundred twenty :: collecting birthday cards. I actually save birthday cards and other mail, and I love looking back at them later. (:
Saturday 9 August // day two hundred twenty-one :: princess flowers at work (: they even got me a princess wand!
Sunday 10 August // day two hundred twenty-two :: I go to the library every Monday morning, and this is why.
Monday 11 August // day two hundred twenty-three :: waiting for the bridge (:
Tuesday 12 August // day two hundred twenty-four :: I took some pictures of these flowers last night, but the ones from today look so much better because of the lighting in the afternoon as opposed to the artificial light from last night. Why does blogger always oversaturate my pictures of red roses? I promise that it didn't look this saturated when I uploaded it... :(

21st birthday
my birthday was actually very uneventful. I didn't ask off since it was a Saturday (which are usually pretty busy), and I didn't have any actual plans for that day. my birthday party is going to be this weekend, so I asked off for that day to get ready.
on Friday night, my manager invited me to go out at midnight, since it's tradition for them to take out their friends at midnight to ring in their birthdays. I don't really like crowded places, so I passed on that.
I just hung out in the morning and did some writing and reading. I made a pizza and a smoothie for lunch, in case you were wondering.
I headed to work in the afternoon, where I was greeted with some princess flowers.
I got to work working on some cleaning, and my dad stopped in with some more flowers.
after he left, I went upstairs to check the rooms before the guests started to check in, and as I was walking back down the stairs, I saw the florist van, and she was delivering flowers from my mom, who stopped by a little bit later while I was folding some laundry. by this point, the lobby smelled like the florist.
the rest of the evening was very uneventful. I just worked on cleaning up the diner and lobby and I did some laundry and of course interacted with our guests. we had a fun family staying in a few rooms this weekend, and they were great.
I wasn't able to take home all three of the vases, but I did take home the roses with the princess wand from the motel. my manager even got me a super cute cupcake card! (:
I wish I had some exciting story about going out with friends to celebrate, but I guess that will have to wait until next week. (:

camp birthday
--- --- ---
before I actually talk about Thursday, I think that it's important to at least mention how I'm feeling today. a year ago, we lost one of our recording engineers, and it still seems so weird that he is no longer with us. we love you and miss you so much Billy, and we while I wish that you were still here with us, I know that you're keeping an eye on us and helping all of these wonderful things happen.
--- --- ---
I am a counselor at a camp at the Y twice a week, and on Thursday we celebrated my birthday! It was a quick morning, but I feel like it needs some documenting too.
When I first walked into the camp room, there were some balloons for me, a pink one with butterflies that said happy birthday, and a pink and silver tiara balloon that said princess. My co-counselor/supervisor wrote my name on it too. (:
As I mentioned on Friday, we have been going to the Coast Guard station the past few years on the day closest to my birthday. We took the bus out there (always a hit, what is it with kids and buses?), and when we got out there we had our snack. We may only have the kids for three hours, but we have to feed them not only a snack, but also lunch. It makes the day seem so much shorter.
We walked a little bit onto the property of the station and set our stuff in the shade, and then we met up with the two guys who showed us around. The kids got to go on a couple of boats, and they got to turn on the sirens on the second one. There was also a speaker system on the boat and one of the little girls sang, "Happy birthday, Miss Teresa." Did I mention that she has a British accent? So. Adorable.
Once all of the kids had a turn on that boat, we went and saw the air boats which were in the garage/shed. Those are the boats that can go out on the ice.
The guys decided that we could take the kids to learn how to throw a rope to a safety preserver (I wish I had some pictures to try to explain that), and my supervisor, who was trying to get me to take a picture with the Coast Guardsmen, suggested that they throw me in the canal to do that. Thanks... We actually took the kids over to a shady area in the grass. One of the guys (I don't know their names, or what to call them) brought the dog outside, and the kids got to pet Moose.
We had lunch and my supervisor had made cupcakes, which was really nice of her. They were princess themed too. I was supposed to wear my tiara for the day, but I didn't.
One of the guys came back out to give the kids coupons for the frozen yogurt place in town, and I was forced into taking a picture with him.
Aaaaaaand that's my camp birthday.
xoxo.

birthdays past
tomorrow is my 21st birthday! I was originally going to do this post for tomorrow, but then I realized that it's "flashback Friday," so I decided to post this for that instead. (:
we'll work our way backwards, since those pictures are more embarrassing...
I worked at the motel on my 20th birthday, and then Abi and I went to a Todd Carey concert! before I went to work, I had lunch with my parents and grandma at the Inn at Cedar Crossing. I made some delicious cupcakes, and I wrote about my birthday here.
on my 19th birthday, I had camp in the morning and we went to the Coast Guard station. the past two years, we've gone back there for the camp closest to my birthday. on this first year, I read Dr. Seuss's Happy Birthday to You, which is my favorite book of his. I probably went out for lunch with my mom and my camp co-counselor, and then for dinner, my parents, sister, and grandparents went to the Cabin. before dinner though, we stopped by the motel two visit two of my lovely bosses (one of which sang me a birthday song) and to see the new ice machine that was purchased that day. we joked that that was my birthday present. (;
{the tiara - which I skipped for my 20th birthday - was something that I had to buy for senior year homecoming court. best $19 I ever spent, as it was used for a couple birthdays and Halloweens, in addition to the two days for homecoming.}
my eighteenth birthday was also a camp day. I have no idea what we did for camp that morning. my mom and I had lunch with my co-counselor at Glas, and then that evening, I had dinner with my sister and parents at the Inn at Cedar Crossing. It started pouring and I had to take my dessert to go. it was a mint chocolate cheesecake, in case you were wondering. this was the day that I purchased the Beetle, and I also went and paid for my first semester of college!
for my 17th birthday, we had family over for dinner and red velvet cake. I also invited pat, melanie, and Delaney, and we took these wonderful photos which make me smile every time I see them.
before the party, I had to teach my class at the Y, and earlier in the day I had lunch with my parents and my supervisor from the Y at Fatzo's (where we used to go all of the time back then), and my parents gave me the gold ring that I wear every day. my mom wanted my dad to be the first to give me a diamond, so my sister and I both received rings for our 17th birthdays.
my sweet sixteen was a bust, but at least I was wearing a Juicy Couture polo. my aunt painted a beautiful painting for me, which is finally hanging up in the entry to my apartment. it sat on my bedroom floor for nearly five years. {you can see the painting here}
a few days before my 15th birthday, I went to Hands On Art Studio with a few of my friends and we painted ceramic flip flops and the first letter of our first name. my parents and I went to British Columbia just after I turned 15, so we just did a family party the day before, and on my birthday, my dad had "Happy Birthday, Teresa!" scrolling on the sign at his office.
I have no recollection of some birthdays before this, but I know that I went mini golfing at Egg Harbor Fun Park {which has really expanded since then} with a friend on my 13th birthday, and I had a cake with horses on it for my 12th birthday.
I went to Hands On Art Studio for my 10th birthday, but that time we painted glasses instead. everyone else painted champagne flutes, and I just did a tumbler.
I'm sure that the blog will be birthday-themed for the next week or so! (:

31/52 2014
I don't understand how it is already August. My birthday is on Saturday (!!) and I don't understand how this year can just go by so so so fast. It's ridiculous! The summer is already almost over, but soon it will be fall. (: This weekend was pretty busy at work, and people seem surprised that we are full on the weekends, not just this weekend, but upcoming weekends. I don't think that they understand that that is how summer works here in Door County. You really have to plan ahead, especially if you're coming for the weekend. You can't just show up and expect that there will be somewhere for you to stay. Another thing I've found lately is that if we have one room left, people don't understand that when I say, "our last room available" that that means this is the only option... Anyway, I digress. Here are some pictures from this week. Most of them are food pictures. Sorry.
Wednesday 30 July // day two hundred eleven :: my mom and I went up north to Casey's for dinner. these flowers were across the street at the bank.
Thursday 31 July // day two hundred twelve :: I found this birthday card at Target and decided that I had to have it, so I bought a float frame to put it in. I just have to figure out where to put it now, because I'm not sure I will be able to hang it without the command strips showing (I can't use nails).
Friday 1 August // day two hundred thirteen :: the peanut butter was so smooth that I had to take a picture before I used it.
Saturday 2 August // day two hundred fourteen :: I feel bad for anyone who has never had Kemps' ice cream. this is Mint Cow Tracks and it is the best mint chocolate ice cream: mint ice cream with swirls of fudge and chocolate and mint cows. (:
Sunday 3 August // day two hundred fifteen :: I usually have my desktop background as the calendar from ShopRuche, but then I decided to change it back to a Vera Bradley one. this is African Violet.
Monday 4 August // day two hundred sixteen :: oh look, another food picture. this is the first time I ever baked a cake! I used this recipe for chocolate loaf cake, but I substituted the oil for applesauce and the sour cream for Greek yogurt (honey vanilla).
Tuesday 5 August // day two hundred seventeen :: French books. a reminder for me to do my lesson for the day on DuoLingo.
xoxo.
